In his key note inaugural speech during the Program Cordinating Board meeting of UNAIDS (the governing board for those not familiar with the patois of the UN)the Executive Director of UNAIDS commented we need to refocus the response to the HIV epidemic from the viewpoint of Real people Real issues and Real problems - lets hope that this includes some Real Solution and Real Action. Here are a few to get you thinking:
Real and Meaningful Involvement of Persons living with and affected by HIV & Key Affected Populations (yes we still need to wave the GIPA placard and demand our rightful seat at the table)
Real reductions in new infections
Real change in the approach to harm reduction and advocacy to address Hepatitis C co-infection
Real success in meeting Universal Access targets
to name but a few - the challenge is there and we all need to work collectively to address it
